The 'Koan of the Who Needs the Higgs blog

The  koan of the Who Needs the Higgs blog

NOTE: A koan is any mental activity designed to suspend activity in the back of the mind.

NOTE:  A 'continuous koan' suspends activity in the back of the mind... continuously.

A 'continuous koan' is a continuous practice that results in a non-linear 'view'.

-----------------------------------------------------------

A good analogy of the difference between linear thinking and a non-linear 'view' is in examining the difference between a linear equation and a non-linear equation.

The Mandelbrot set is an iterative and recursive non-linear equation.

  An example of a linear equation is....  1 + 1 = 2  or...

 "one plus one equals two"

But its iterative and recursive non-linear equivalent can be expressed as...

"two is the equivalent of one... and once again"

The difference is that the linear concludes with a sum that refers only to itself.   In iterative and recursive non-linear expressions, the conclusion not only refers to itself... but to its equivalent as well... by referring to the underlying reality common to both.   And it does so by implying such through the use of non-verbal and indirect multiple meanings.   This indirect 'implying of meaning' back to its equivalent is the mechanism of recursive and iterative language.    It does so by undermining the minds ability to "land" on a conclusion because multiple non-verbal meanings are implied through non-verbal intuition rather than language that we can 'verbalize' in our minds.   Anything that can be verbalized can be conceptualized... and anything that can be conceptualized is by definition... 'defined'.   And the more 'multiple' the meanings implied the longer the suspension of definition... because the mind is too 'busy' to land... so to speak... so it 'ponders'...  like gazing into infinity.

So it is this 'suspension of definition' in the back of our minds... (like a koan) that leaves one open to new assumptions... by making 'space' for intuition to inform us... therefore 'breaking open the box' of the linear mind... like a linguistic can opener.

So while it may be true that language can be a barrier to understanding... it is also true that the proper use of language can be an aide in understanding... and it's a skill that can be practiced and learned.   So language, when used properly, is a vehicle for developing... and expressing... an out of the box and intuitive, non-linear view of reality... one that is compatible with everyday life and common sense.    Why?   Because paradox is not a violation of logic... it's an extension of logic... through understanding.   And this blog gives the tools and principals to 'understand' that as well as several common sense roadmaps of progress (see page links on sidebar).

An unexpected benefit of this view is that it free's up creative imagination by liberating mis-directed imagination trapped by false assumptions... otherwise know as 'imaginings'.   This free'd up imagination can then be used for greater creative expression or to solve problems in a 'practically creative' way... so it's a self validating experience... as we take advantage of new inspiration or solve problems that were once thought to be intractable.   It happens naturally because as we liberate imagination it naturally 'flows' to where it's most needed.   It's obvious.

The article and this blog make use of this - in their words and their format - and as such, when they are read - and their message contemplated - they can help to facilitate this view.   And the more it is read... the more it will be understood.  Because the blog is literally a practice that can be 'practiced'.

The difference between this blog and a typical koan is that most 'pithy' koans leave the 'back of the mind' hanging - so it naturally looks for something to 'do'.   The practice in the blog gives the 'back of the mind' something to ponder... so it has something to 'do'... without 'landing' anywhere.   Thus it takes advantage of the minds inclinations... without the distraction.   So instead of just 'suspending' the 'back of the mind' it gives it something to ponder as well as re-directing it in the direction of the source of intuition... thus leaving it open to being actively informed by that which is the source of mind.

After all... you can't find something until you place your attention on it.

So to 'find' intuition you have to turn your attention in the direction its coming from...

So the reading of the blog could be seen as akin to practicing an 'active or continuous koan'... one that leaves the mind in a position to be 'informed' by intuitive insight without distracting it from ordinary life.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: All inspired artists rely on intuitive insights... but most artists find inspiration a fleeting thing (writers block).  The blog gives a practice and view that gives the artist a repeatable path to that inspiration... by showing them how to look for it... literally.  Thus it is an aide to repeatable and reliable inspiration... so the artist (or Scientist) can extend their window of inspiration indefinitely if desired.  Its just a matter of practice.

It's 'simple'.

--------------------------------------

NOTE: An 'open' mind is one that doesn't 'land' anywhere.

--------------------------------------

NOTE: Practicing 'recursive writing' is a spiritual practice... that can be 'practiced'.
